Let Us Help take Care of your Gift from God
Mission Statement
Methodist Temple Children’s Center is dedicated to providing quality childcare to the children enrolled. We believe that children are gifts from God and that they are entitled to certain basic rights. Among these rights are the right to a safe, healthy, reliable, and stable environment and the right to a program rich in interesting and stimulating daily activities administered by caring, respectful adults.
Commitment To Diversity
Methodist Temple Children’s Center has a culture that is modern, relevant and inspires students to have a brighter future. We welcome students of any race, color, sex, national and ethnic origin, and religion to all rights, privileges, programs, and activities generally accorded or made available to students at the school. Our Center does not discriminate on the basis of race, color, sex, national and ethnic origin, or religion.
Program Objectives
Our education goals and objectives are based on the Creative Curriculum. Our objective is to offer an environment that encourages children to develop at their own pace and according to their individual needs. We offer a program where each child is respected and valued for their uniqueness. This curriculum provides guidelines for meeting children’s social, emotional, physical, cognitive, and language needs through play and relationships.
History
In the summer of 1967, a group of Methodist Temple members went to their pastor, Dr. Guy Carpenter, with the idea of opening a day care center in the church building. At this time there were only two day care centers in operation in Evansville and both of them were on the west side of the city. Dr. Carpenter told the group to proceed with the steps necessary to implement the program. The Center opened its doors in September of that year and was named Methodist Temple Day Nursery. In January of 1968, the center became licensed by the state of Indiana for forty children ages four and five. Over the years the capacity, ages of children, and even the name of the Center itself has been changed. Upon completion of a major addition in 1995, the facility became licensed for infants through six year olds with a capacity for 174 children, and the name officially became Methodist Temple Children’s Center. With Continuity of Care, Paths to Quality, and NAEYC accreditation came limitations in the number of children in any group. So in 2018, the license was changed to reflect a capacity of 140.
